Honey Electric Solar Helps Schools Go Solar In addition to our commercial and residential work, Honey Electric Solar (HES) also helps North Carolina schools who want to use solar energy. Between 2004 and 2007 HES installed education based solar electric system at the Carolina Friends School in Durham, Heritage Middle School in Wake Forrest and Northern Guilford Middle School in Greensboro. Additionally, 2007 through 2009 HES completed PV installs at (6) NC schools as part of The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED).
The NEED Project The NEED Project mission is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. In North Carolina more than 700 educators participate in NEED programs. Regional workshops are hosted across the state. The North Carolina Department of Administration - State Energy Office, provides support to open the program to all interested school districts in North Carolina, educating about energy and saving valuable dollars by increasing energy efficiency programs in the schools. In 2007, many schools applied to NEED for PV array installations. Teachers from all across the state attended a NEED training conference in March, where Honey Electric Solar gave a presentation on the installations. In 2008, six schools were selected to receive solar panels for their buildings as part of the "North Carolina Schools Going Solar" program. Honey Electric Solar is proud to have installed the systems for the following schools:
